Thornbera Road

Thornbera Road

A ground-floor rear extension creating a bright, open-plan living and dining space for a growing family.

The Thornbera Road project centred on transforming a compartmentalised Victorian-era terrace into a more open, light-filled family home. The existing rear rooms were reconfigured and extended to create a single, generous kitchen-dining-living space running the full width of the plot.

Large format sliding doors open the new space directly to the garden, erasing the traditional hard boundary between inside and outside. A flat roof with clerestory glazing on the party wall ensures good natural daylight throughout the day without compromising neighbour privacy.

Internally, the space is finished simply — polished concrete floors, white walls, and considered joinery — allowing the family’s life to animate the rooms rather than the architecture competing for attention.
